Red Canyon,

Dixie National Forest

Dixie National Forest is named for the settlers from the southeastern U.S. Red Canyon provided us a short stop on our way from Bryce to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. On our approach to Red Canyon, we saw a couple of pronghorn in a field, though were unable to photograph them. At Red Canyon, we hiked along the Pink Ledges Trail (very easy) and then on the Castle Bridge Trail, again not very difficult, but a pretty walk. Leaving the Red Canyon, we drove south on Route 89 to Kanab, stopped at Cedar Post Trading Company, a shop with Indian crafts, pawned goods, guns, and ammunition. We had lunch in Jacob Lake, Utah, 42 miles north of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, at the junction of Routes 89 and 67, a route through the Kaibab National Forest (part burned in a 2006 forest fire) to the Grand Canyon.
